١٠٧٩ - الملك الظَّاهر سيف الدين بَرْقُوق بن آنص العُثْمَاني الجَرْكَسي (٥)، أول الجراكسة بمصر المتوفى في شوال سنة إحدى وثمانمائة، عن نحو خمسين سنة. كان من مماليك يلبغا العُمَري وإنما سُمِّي برقوق لجحوظٍ في عينيه وتنقلت به الأحوال إلى أن تسلطن بعد خلع ربيبه الصالح حاجي بن الأشرف سنة أربع وثمانين وسبعمائة، ثم عزل وأُعيد وكانت مدة سلطنته في المرتين ست عشر سنة ونصف، ثم تولى ولده الناصر فرج. وكان برقوق من أجل ملوك مصر، هابته الملوك وهادنوه حتى الأمير تيمور وله أخبار طويلة وآثار ذكرناها في "الفذلكة" (٦).
