٨٩٦ - السلطان أبو إبراهيم إسمعيل بن أحمد بن أسد بن سَامَان السَّامَاني (٤)، أولهم، المتوفى ببخارى في صفر سنة خمس وتسعين ومائتين، عن إحدى وستين سنة.كان من أمراء (١) عمرو بن اللّيث الصفَّار، خرج عليه بما وراء النهر، فانهزم أصحاب عمرو إلى إلخ، ثم حُمل إليه مقيدًا فقام له واعتنقه وتأدب وبلغ ذلك المعتضد ففرح وخلع على إسمعيل خلعة السلطنة وقلده خراسان وما وراء النهر. واستمر بها إلى أن مات وقام بالأمر بعده أبو نصر أحمد، وكان ذا علم وشجاعة. جمع بعضهم سيرته.
