٤٨٢ - الشيخ أبو الفتح أحمد بن علي بن محمد، المعروف بابن بَرهان الشافعي الفقيه (٤)، المتوفى في جمادى الأولى سنة ثمان عشرة وخمسمائة عن تسع وثلاثين سنة. كان حنبلياً [ثم] تشفع وتفقه على الغزالي وأبي بكر الشاشي وأبي الحسن إلِكْيا. وكان ذكياً لا يكاد يسمع شيئاً إلاّ ويعلق بذهنه، يضرب به المثل في حل الإشكال. رحلت إليه الطلبة من البلاد واستغرق نهاره وبعض ليله في إقرائهم وولي تدريس النظامية ببغداد. وصنَّف "الوجيز" و"الوسيط" و"البسيط في أصول الفقه". وذهب إلى أن العامي لا يلزمه التقيد بمذهب ورجَّحه النووي. وبَرهان: بفتح الباء كما في "القاموس". ذكره أصحاب الطبقات.
