    ٩٥ - محمد بن يعقوب أبو العباس الأصم. حدث في الإِسلام ستا وسبعين سنة، سمع من الربيع كتبًا للشافعى "المبسوط" وغيره، وكان يكره الأخذ على التحديث، قال الحاكم: وإنما ظهر فيه الصمم بعد انصرافه من الرحلة فاستحكم فيه حتى بقى لا يسمع نهيق الحمار، ولد سنة سبع وأربعين ومائتين، ومات سنة ست وأربعين وثلثمائة، وأضر في آخر عمره، وهذا المسند الشهير للشافعي لم يصنفه الشافعى إنما انتخبه الإمام أبو جعفر محمد بن جعفر بن مطر من كتاب المبسوط، فكان يسمع على الأصم. قال الحاكم: سمعت الأصم يقول: رأيت أبى في المنام فقال لي عليك بكتاب البويطى فليس في كتب الشافعى كتابًا أقل خطأً منه.
