شيث بن إبراهيم بن محمد، أبو الحسين القفطي (٣). من أهل صعيد مصر، مولده بقفط (٤). قرأ بالإسكندريّة العلم، وعاد إلى الصّعيد، ومات بها في سنة ستّ وتسعين وخمس مائة، عن نيّف وتسعين سنة، وكفّ بصره قبل موته. وكان قد أخذ بأطراف العلوم: نحوا ولغة وفقها على مذهب مالك، جاور بمكة عدة سنين. وصنّف عدة كتب، منها: كتاب الإشارة في مختصر العبارة (٥): في النّحو، وكتاب النّجم الثاقب في فضائل عليّ بن أبي طالب، وكتاب الطاعة والمعصية، وكتاب مسالك السّعداء، وكتاب الرقائق (٦). وقد كان بينه وبين القاضي الفاضل وزير صلاح الدّين مكاتبات تدلّ على تعظيمه له واعتقاده فيه.
