إسماعيل بن إسحاق بن حمّاد بن درهم، أبو إسحاق الأزديّ (٢). كان عالما فقيها على مذهب مالك، شرح مذهبه ولخّصه. وصنّف عدة كتب، منها: كتاب في أحكام القرآن (٣)، وكتاب في معاني القرآن. وإليه انتهى النّحو واللّغة في زمانه. روى عنه عبد الله بن أحمد بن حنبل، وجمع حديث مالك، وكتاب يحيى بن سعيد الأنصاريّ. واستوطن بغداد، وقلّد القضاء بها. وكانت وفاته في سنة اثنتين وثمانين ومائتين عن اثنتين وثمانين سنة فجاءة.
