محمد بن عبد الله الخطيب الإسكافيّ، أبو عبد الله الأديب اللّغوي (٦). صاحب التصانيف الحسنة/٤٩/ كان من أهل أصفهان وخطيبا بالرّي، قال الصاحب إسماعيل بن عبّاد: فاز بالعلم من أصفهان ثلاثة: حائك،وحلاّج، وإسكاف، فالحائك: أبو عليّ المرزوقيّ، والحلاّج: أبو منصور ماشاذه (١)، والإسكاف: أبو عبد الله خطيب الرّي (٢). وله من الكتب: كتاب العبرة يتضمّن جماعة من أهل الأدب، وكتاب مبادئ اللّغة (٣)، وهو أشهر كتبه، وكتاب شواهد سيبويه، وكتاب نقد الشّعر، وكتاب درّة التنزيل وغرّة التأويل في بيان الآيات المتشابهة لفظا (٤)، وكتاب لطيف التدبير في سياسات الملوك (٥).
