محمد بن علي، أبو سهل الهرويّ (٤). كان أديبا لغويّا، يدرّس النّحو في جامع عمرو بن العاص. وقد صنّف كتاب الغريبين: القرآن والحديث (٥)، وكتاب شرح الفصيح لثعلب (٦)، وكتاب الأسد (٧) في مجلّد في نحو ثلاثين كرّاسا، وكتاب السّيف (٨) ذكر له ثمان مائة اسم. كانت وفاته في شهر رمضان من سنة اثنتين وسبعين وثلاث مائة (٩) عنستّ وستين سنة.
