محمَّد بن علي بن مخلد، أبو عبد الله، الجَوْهَرِي. كذا نسبه الحاكم ﵀ تعالي- إلى جده في "المستدرك" (١/ ٩٧/ ١٣٦) وغيره، كما هي عادته، فهو: محمَّد بن أحمد بن علي بن مخلد، تقدم ولأجل ما سبق قال عدد من الباحثين والدكاترة لم نقف له على ترجمه، ومن هؤلاء: عبد الله الحاشدي في تحقيقه لـ "الأسماء والصفات" (٢/ ٣٠٤)، والدكتور عبد الإله الأحمدي في "ثلاث شعب" (١/ ٩٦)، والدكتور عبد العلي حامد في تحقيق "الشعب" (٢/ ٢١٠)، والدكتور الحسن بن عبد الرحمن العلوي في "تعليقه" على "مختصر الصواعق" (٣/ ١٠٧٨)، والدكتور عادل حسن علي في كتابه "الإِمام الحاكم النَّيْسابُوري" ص (٢٥٧) برقم (١١١).
