الحسين بن علي بن داود، أبو علي، المصري. قال الحاكم في "مستدركه" (١/ ٦٥٥/ ١٨١١)، وهو كذلك في "الإتحاف" (٦/ ٣٨٥): حدثني أبو علي الحسين بن علي بن داود المصري بمكة -حرسها الله-، ثنا أحمد بن محمد بن جرير. وفي كتاب "رجال الحاكم" (١/ ٣٢٦): صوابه: الحسن، وقد تقدم. قال مقيده -عفا الله عنه-: ومن المحتمل أن يكون هو الحسين بن علي بن يزيد بن داود، أبو علي النَّيسابُوري، فإنه قد نزل مصر ومكة -حرسها الله-، ويكون الحاكم في هذا الموضع قد نسب أباه إلى جده، والله أعلم.
