(٢) كان عالما بالأخبار عارفا بالآثار، حافظا للقرآن المجيد، عارفا بأسباب النزول والتفسير وقد قرأ جملة من دواوين العرب، رأيت بخطّه ما كتبه لبعض طلاّب العلم: تغول بأدنى الجري فضل زمامها ... فتحسبها في الأرض وهي تطير إذا ما جرت والريح، لم يثن جريها ... فتور وللريح العقيم فتور فلا هي تستعصي على غلوائها ... ولا تطّبيها ونية وهجير
