محمد بن يوسف بن عبد الله بن محمود، أبو عبد الله، شمس الدين الجزري: فقيه شافعي، خطيب، عارف بالتفسير والأصلين والمنطق والطب والرياضيات وغير ذلك من العلوم. كان أبوه صيرفيا بجزيرة ابن عمر، فولد ونشأ بها. وسافر إلى مصر، فأقام بقوص ثم بالقاهرة، ودرس بمدرسة الشريف بن ثعلب والصاحبية والشريفية والمعزية، وولي خطابة الجامع الطولوني وجامع الصالح خارج باب زويلة. وقرأ عليه تقي الدين السبكي وروى عنه. قال المقريزي: "كان له يد طولى في تفسير القرآن".
