محمد بن الحسين بن محمد بن خلف ابن الفراء، أبو يعلى: شيخ الحنابلة في عصره، كان عالما في الأصول والفروع وأنواع الفنون. ارتفعت مكانته عند القادر والقائم العباسيين، وولاه الخليفة القائم قضاء دار الخلافة والحريم، وحران وحلوان، وكان قد امتنع، واشترط أن لا يحضر أيام المواكب، ولا يخرج في الاستقبالات ولا يقصد دار السلطان، فقبل القائم شرطه. قالالذهبي: "لم يكن له خبرة بعلل الحديث ولا برجاله، واحتج بأحاديث كثيرة واهية في الأصول والفروع. وأما في الفقه ومذاهب الناس ونصوص أحمد واختلافها فإمام لا يجارى". مات ببغداد، وعطلت الأسواق لجنازته. من كتبه "أحكام القرآن" (١). الزاغولي [٤٧٢ - ٥٥٩ هـ / ١٠٨٠ - ١١٦٤ م]
