محمد بن أحمد بن إبراهيم بن سليمان بن محمد الأصبهاني، أبو (أحمد، المعروف بالعسال)أحمد، المعروف بالعسال: محدث، حافظ، مفسر، قاض، مقرىء، من أهل أصبهان، وولي قضاءها. سمع بها وبهمذان وبغداد والكوفة والبصرة والحرمين وواسط والري وخوزستان. وحدث ببغداد. قال أبو نعيم: "هو من الكبار في المعرفة، والإتقان، والحفظ" وقال ابن منده: "كتبت عن ألف وسبعمائة شيخ فلم أر فيهم مثل العسال وأبي إسحاق بن حمزة". من كتبه " تفسير القرآن" (١). الذهلي [٢٧٩ - ٣٦٧ هـ / ٨٩٣ - ٩٧٨ م]
