أحمد بن الحسين بن علي المروزي، أبو حامد، المعروف بابن الطبري: حافظ للحديث، عارف بالتفسير والتاريخ، من القضاة. أصله من همذان، ونشأ في طبرستان، وقدم بغداد فتفقه بها، ودرس على أبي الحسن الكرخي مذهب أبي حنيفة. ثم عاد إلى خراسان فولي بها قضاء القضاة، ثم دخل بغداد، وقد علت سنه، فحدث. بها، وكتب الناس عنه. وفي تاريخ بغداد انه سكن بخارى ومات بها سنة ٣٧٧ هـ، وقيل مات بمرو يا نفس السنة (١). الرملي [٧٧٣ - ٨٤٤ هـ / ١٣٧١ - ١٤٤٠ م]
