محمود بن أحمد بن محمد بن بختيان العلامة قاضي القضاة أبو الثناء الزنجاني الشافعي درس وأفتى وناظر، وكان من بحور العلم، وولي قضاء القضاة بالعراق مدة، ثم عزل، وهو والد قاضي القضاة عز الدين أحمد، وقد سمع الحديث من عبيد الله بن محمد الشاذلي، واستشهد بسيف التتار سنة ست وخمسين وست مائة، عن تسع وسبعين سنة.
