محمد بن الحسن بن الحسين بن أبي الضياء الخطيب أبو عبد الله البعلبكي ثم المصري نشأ بمصر وقرأ بها الأدب، وسمع بدمشق من ابن عساكر وغيره، ودخل بغداد فاشتغل بها، وسمع بها من أبي زرعة، وابن البطي، ثم عاد إلى مصر فاتصل بالسلطان صلاح الدين، وولاه خطابة مصر، وهو أول من خطب بها لبني العباس، وبعثه بذلك السلطان صلاح الدين رسولا إلى بغداد، وأثنى عليه القاضي الفاضل في رسالته بذلك، وكانت وفاته بدمشق في سنة ثنتين وسبعين وخمس مائة، ولم يكمل الأربعين ﵀.
