محمود بن محمد بن العباس بن أبي محمد الخوارزمي الشافعي المعروف بالعباسي فقيه تلك البلاد ومفيدهم، تفقه على محيي السنة أبي محمد الحسين بن مسعود البغوي، وسمع الحديث من أبيه، وجده، وإسماعيل بن أحمد البيهقي، وجماعة بمرو وبغداد وغيرهما من البلاد، ووعظ بالنظامية، وسمع منه أحمد بن طارق، ويوسف بن مقلد، قال أبو سعد السمعاني: كان فقيهًا عارفًا بالمتفق والمختلف صوفيًا حسن الظاهر والباطن، سمع الكثير على كبر السن، وعلق المذهب عنالبغوي، وأفاد الناس بخوارزم، وصنف تاريخًا، مات سنة ثمان وستين وخمس مائة.
