محمد بن حمزة ابن الشيخ أبي الحسن على أبو المعالي السلمي الدمشقي تفقه على جمال الإسلام وسمع ببغداد من أبي القاسم بن بيان وبدمشق من هبة الله ابن الأكفاني، وعنه زين الأمناء وأبو القاسم بن صصرى، قال القاسم ابن عساكر: كان متجملًا حسن الاعتقاد، باع أملاكه وأنفقها على نفسه، توفي في جمادى الآخرة سنة خمس وستين وخمس مائة.
