عمر بن محمد بن الحسن بن عبد الله أبو حفص الهمذاني المعروف بالزاهد ورد بغداد بعد سنة خمس مائة، وتفقه على أسعد الميهني، وصحب الشيخ جمال الدباسي بها، قال أبو سعد السمعاني: وكان ورعًا صالحًا متدينًا، ثم ورد خراسان، وسكن مرو مدة وصحب يوسف الهمذاني الزاهد، وكان يروض نفسه ويداوم على التهجد والصوم وأكل الحلال وكان لا يخاف في الله لومة لائم في الأمر بالمعروف والنهي عن المنكر، وسمع صحيح البخاري من أبي طالب الحسين بن محمدالزينبي، وعنه أبو سعد السمعاني، وقال: توفي في أحد الربيعين أو الجمادين سنة أربع وخمسين وخمس مائة عن أربع وستين سنة ﵀.
