    عمر بن علي بن سهل أبو سعد الدامغاني المعروف بالسلطان تلميذ أبي حامد الغزالي، وقد وقع لي أستاذنا الفقيه إلى الإمام الشافعي كما تقدم، قال أبو سعد السمعاني: كان إمامًا مناظرًا نجلًا واعظًا حسن الظاهر والباطن، رقيق القلب، سريع الدمعة، سمع أبا بكر بن خلف الشيرازي، وأبا تراب عبد الباقي الداعي، والحسن بن أحمد السمرقندي الواعظ، وأحمد بن محمد الشجاعي، وعنه عبد الرحيم السمعاني، لقيه بمرو ومات سنة سبع وأربعين وخمس مائة.
