عمر بن محمد بن علي الإمام أبو حفص الشيرزي السرخسي قال أبو سعد السمعاني: هو أستاذنا وشيخنا، كان على سيرة السلف من التواضع وترك التكلف، وكان إمامًا محققًا كثير التصانيف في الخلاف والنظر، كثير التلاوة، وتفقه على جدي أبي المظفر السمعاني، وكان من أعيان أصحابه وعلى أبي حامد الشجاعي، وسمع الحديث من أبي علي السرخسي، وأبي الحسن محمد بن محمد بن زيد العلوي، ومحمد بن الملك المظفري، ومحمد بن أحمد بن ماجه الأبهري، وسمعت منه سنن أبي داود، وعلقت عنه من الفقه، توفي في أول رمضان سنة تسع وعشرين وخمس مائة.
