علي بن محمد بن إسماعيل أبو الحسن العراقي يلقب بقاضي القضاة، لأنه ولي القضاء بطوس، وتفقه على الشيخ أبي محمد الجويني، وسمع أبا حفص بن مسرور، وأبا عثمان الصابوني، وابن المهتدي بالله وغيرهم، وعنه أبو طاهر حمد بن محمد السنجي، توفي بطوس في أول رمضان سنة ثمان تسعين وأربع مائة عن أربع وثمانين سنة.
