عزيز بن عبد الملك بن منصور القاضي أبو المعالي الجيلي الأشعري الشافعي الملقب شيذلة ورد بغداد وسكنها، وولي قضاء باب الأزج مدة، وكان متطوعًا فصيحًا كثير الحفظ حلو النادرة، جمع كتابا في مصارع العشاق ومصابيهم، وسمع الحديث من أبي عبد الله الصوري، والحسين بن علي الولي الفرضي وجماعة، وحدث بيسير، وروت عنه شهدة بنت علي الأموية، وأبو علي بن سكرة، وقال: كان زاهدًا متقللًا من الدنيا، وكان شيخ الوعاظ يعلمهم الوعظ بتصانيفه وتدريبه، مات في سابع عشر صفر سنة أربع وتسعين وأربع مائة.
