الحسين بن الحسن أبو عبد الله الشهرستاني قاضي دمشق على مذهب الإمام الشافعي، سمع الحديث بنيسابور من أبي القاسم القشيري، وبجرجان من إسماعيل بن مسعدة، وبالعراق من ابن هزارمرد الصريفيني، قال الحافظ أبو القاسم ابن عساكر: وحدثنا عنه هبة الله بن طاوس، وكان حسن السيرة في الأحكام، ولي قضاء دمشق في سنة سبع وسبعين في أيام تتش، وكان شديدًا على من خالف الحق، واستشهد بظاهر إنطاكية في المصاف بيد الفرنج سنة إحدى وتسعين وأربع مائة.
