علي بن أحمد بن محمد بن الحسن بن أبي الحسن الحاكم الإستراباذي كان من أكبر أئمة الشافعية بسمرقند، كان يكتب عامة نهاره، وهو مع ذلك يقرأ القرآن ظاهرا، لا يشغله هذا عن هذا، وكان يقرأ كل يوم ختمة، وكان قد سأل الله في جوف الكعبة القوة على القراءة، وعلى إتيان النساء، فاستجيب له في ذلك.
