محمد بن المفضل بن سلمة بن عاصم أبو الطيب بن سلمة الضبي البغدادي الفقيه الشافعي تفقه على ابن سريج، وكان موصوفا بفرط الذكاء، وله وجه في المذهب، وقد صنف كتبا عدة، ومات شابا، ﵀، سنة ثماني وثلاث مائة، ومن مفرداته: تكفير تارك الصلاة، وأن الولي إذا أذن للسفيه في عقد النكاح لم يصح كما لو أذن للصبي، وقال الخطيب البغدادي: كان من كبار الفقهاء ومتقدميهم، وقال: إنه درس على ابن سريج، وقال الشيخ أبو عمرو بن الصلاح: وكان يعرف النسب في الفضل والأدب، وقالوا: صاحب كتاب ضياء القلوب، وغيره من الكتب، وجده سلمة بن عاصم صاحب الفراء، وشيخ ثعلب.
