وفيها سار قتيبة إلى مروالروذ. فبلغ الخبر إلى مرزبانها، فهرب إلى الفرس، فقدم قتيبة فأخذ ابنين له فقتلهما وصلبهما، ومضى إلى الفارياب، فخرج إليه ملك الفارياب مذعنا [١] مطيعا فرضي عنه واستعمل عليها رجلا من باهلة، وبلغ الخبر صاحب الجوزجان، فترك أرضه وخرج إلى الجبال هاربا، وسار قتيبة إلى الجوزجان، فلقيه أهلها مطيعين، فقبل منهم واستعمل عليها عامر بن مالك، وما زال ينصب المنجنيق على بلدة، ويحرق بلدة، ويبالغ في الجهاد حتى قتل في مكان واحد اثني عشر ألفا.
