وفيها انصرف عَبْد الرَّحْمَنِ بن خالد بن الوليد من بلاد الروم إلى حمص [٢] وكان قد عظم شأنه/ بالشام، ومال أهلها إليه لموضع غنائه عن المسلمين وآثار ٨٨/ ب أبيه حتى خافه معاوية وخشي على نفسه منه لميل الناس إليه، فدس إليه عدي بن أثال شربة مسمومة فقتله بها، فمات بحمص، وخرج خالد بن عَبْد الرَّحْمَنِ بن خالد فقتل ابن أثال [٣] . وفيها: حج بالناس عتبة بن أبي سفيان، وكان العمال والولاة الذين كانوا في السنة التي قبلها.
