ابن كاني (٠٠٠ - نحو ١٠٤٠ هـ = ٠٠٠ - نحو ١٦٣٠ م) محمد بن مصطفى كاني شلبي بن جعفر بن تيمور الرومي الحنفي: مؤرخ. تركي الأصل، مستعرب. ولد في المدينة. وكان من موظفي الترك في اليمن، أيام استيلائهم عليها. وصنف تاريخا ابتدأ فيه من عصر النبوة إلى سنة ١٠٣٣ هـأتى به على أخبار اليمن والأئمة والدعاة فيه من الزيدية وغيرهم وملوك الترك وحكامهم في اليمن، سماه (بغية الخاطر ونزهة الناظر - خ) نقل عنه المحبي، ورسالة في (نسب أبي بكر ابن سالم السقاف - خ) وله شعر ومعرفة بالأدب (١) .
