    السلطان غياث الدِّين (٠٠٠ - ٥٩٩ هـ = ٠٠٠ - ١٢٠٣ م) محمد بن سام بن الحسين بن الحسن المسعودي، أبو الفتح، السلطان غياث الدين: صاحب غزنة. كان عادلا، داهية، مظفرا في حروبه، فيه فضل وأدب. قرأ شيئا من الفقه على مذهب الشافعيّ، ونسخ بخطه عدة مصاحفووقفها في مدارس أنشأها بخراسان، كما بنى رباطات ومساجد وخانات في الطرق والمفاوز. وكان إذا نزل ببلدة من بلاده عمّ أهلها بإحسانه ولا سيما الفقهاء والأدباء. ولم يكن يتعصب لمذهب. طالت أيامه ومات بالنقرس، في هراة (١) .
