محمَّد باشا بايْ (١٢٢٦ - ١٢٧٦ هـ = ١٨١١ - ١٨٥٩ م) محمد بن حسين بن محمود بن محمد الرشيد، أبو عبد الله: أمير تونس. ولد فيها، وبويع بإمارتها سنة ١٢٧١ هـ وحمدت سيرته إلى أن توفي. كان عهده عهد رخاء. وكان شجاعا حازما مولعا بدقائق الصنائع. وهو أول من أدخل (المطبعة) إلى الديار التونسية، وأول من ضرب السكة باسمه من الذهب والفضة والنحاس، وجعل اسم السلطان العثماني في أحد الوجهين (٣) .
