    ابن الأَشْعَث الخُزَاعي (٠٠٠ - ١٤٩ هـ = ٠٠٠ - ٧٦٦ م) محمد بن الأشعث بن عُقبة الخزاعي: وال، من كبار القواد في عصر المنصور العباسي. ولاه المنصور مصر سنة ١٤١ هـ ثم أمره باستنقاذ إفريقية من بعض المتغلبة - بعد مقتل حبيب بن عبد الرحمن الفهري - فوجّه إليها جيشا بقيادة أبي الأحوص العجليّ، فهزمه الثائر أبو الخطاب، فسار ابن الأشعث في ٤٠ أو ٥٠ ألفا (سنة ١٤٢) فقتل أبا الخطاب سنة ١٤٤ ودخل القيروان سنة ١٤٦ وانتظم له الأمر في إفريقية، فثار عليه عيسى بن موسى بن عجلان (أحد جنده) في جماعة من قواده، وأخرجوه من القيروان سنة ١٤٨ فعاد إلى العراق. ثم غزا بلاد الروم مع العباس ابن عم المنصور، فمات في الطريق (٣) .
