    محفوظ بن سُلَيْمان (٠٠٠ - ٢٥٤ هـ = ٠٠٠ - ٨٦٨ م) محفوظ بن سليمان: أمير، من ولاة الخراج بمصر في العصر العباسي، كان من رجال هارون الرشيد. ولما عجز الليث ابن الفضل بمصر، عن إخضاع أهل الحوف (سنة ١٨٦) ورحل إلى الخليفة يسأله أن يبعث معه بالجيوش لجبابة الخراج، كان محفوظ في باب الرشيد، فرفع إليه يضمن جباية خراج الحوف " بلا سوط ولا عصا " فولاه الرشيد الخراج (سنة ١٨٧) فقصدها. واستمر زمنا، وعزل، ثم أعيد في أيام المتوكل. وتراكم عليه ثلاثمئة ألف دينار، فطلبه المتوكل، فحمل إلى مقيدا بالحديد، فعفا عنه (في قصة لطيفة أوردها ابن إياس) وولاه على مصر، فعاد واستمر إلى أن توفي ودفن بها (١) .
