ابن مجثل (٠٠٠ - ١٢٤٩ هـ = ٠٠٠ - ١٨٣٤ م) عليّ بن مجثّل، من آل مغيد: أمير بلاد " عسير " في جنوب الحجاز. اشتهر بوثبته على جيش من الترك (العثمانيين) كان قد احتل " جدة " بقيادة " تركي بلماز " وزحف فاستولى على زبيد والمخا وسائر تهائم اليمن، فتصدى له ابن مجثل، فنشبت بينهما معارك كانت الفاصلة فيها معركة بندر المخا، طفر بها ابن مجثل واستعاد البلاد التهامية وولى عليها الولاة والعمال، وقفل عائدا إلى عسير، فمات في الطريق (١) .
