علي باي الأَوَّل (١١٢٤ - ١١٩٦ هـ = ١٧١٢ - ١٧٨٢ م) علي بن حسين بن علي تركي، أبو الحسن: أمير تونس. ولد فيها. وعني بالحديث والفقه، وولي بعض الأعمال. ثم بويع سنة ١١٧٢ هـ بعد وفاة أخيه محمد باي. وحارب الفرنسيين، ثم صالحهم سنة ١١٨٤ هـ أعان السلطان مصطفى خان العثماني على محاربة الروس سنة ١١٨٥ هـ وحسنت سيرته. ولما شاخ عهد بإدارة الأعمال إلى ابنه " حمودة باي " وأقام إلى أن توفي (٢) .
