    المُحقِّق الثاني (٨٦٨ - ٩٤٠ هـ = ١٤٦٣ - ١٥٣٤ م) علي بن الحسين بن عبد العالي الكركي العاملي، أبو الحسن، الملقب بالمحقق الثاني: مجتهد أصولي إمامي، كان يُعرف بالعلائي، ولد في جبل عامل (بلبنان) ورحل إلى مصر فأخذ عن علمائها، وسافر إلى العراق. ثم استقر في بلاد العجم، فأكرمه الشاه " طهماسب " الصفوي وجعل له الكلمة في إدارة ملكه، وكتب إلى جميع بلاده بامتثال ما يأمر به الشيخ، وأن أصل الملك إنما هو له لأنه نائب الإمام، فكان الشيخ يكتب إلى جميع البلدان بدستور العمل في الخراج وما ينبغي تدبيره في أمور الرعية. وتوفي في نجف الكوفة. له كتب منها " شرح القواعد " ست مجلدات، وشروح ورسائل وحواش كثيرة (٢) .
