    عقيل بن علفة (٠٠٠ - نحو ١٠٠ هـ = ٠٠٠ - نحو ٧١٨ م) عقيل بن علفة بن الحارث بن معاوية، اليربوعي المري الضب أبي الذبيانيّ، أبو العُميس: شاعر مجيد مقلّ، من شعراء الدولة الأموية. كان من بيت شرف في قومه، ترغب قريش في مصاهرته، وفيه خيلاء وغطرسة، قال المبرد: " كان عقيل بن علفة من الغيرة والأنفة، على ما ليس عليه أحد ". وكانت إحدى بناته، واسمها " الجربا " زوجة للخليفة يزيد ابن عبد الملك. وعقيل هو القائل: إن بنيّ ضرجوني بالدم ... من يلق أبطال الرجال يكلم شنشنة أعرفها من أخزم (٢) .
