أَبو السَّائب الهَمذاني (٢٦٤ - ٣٥٠ هـ = ٨٧٨ - ٩٦١ م) عتبة بن عبيد الله بن موسى الهمذاني، أبو السائب: قاض، من أهل همذان. غلب عليه في ابتداء أمره علم التصوف والميل إلى أهل الزهد، وقصد بغداد فتفقه على مذهب الشافعيّ، وسافر إلى المراغة فتقلد الحكم بها وبأذربيجان. ونشبت فتنة فعاد إلى بغداد. وعرف فضله فتقلد أعمالا جليلة بالكوفة وديار مضر والأهواز. ثم كان قاضي القضاة ببغداد سنة ٣٣٨ هـ واستمر إلى أن توفي. قال السبكي: وهو أول من ولي قضاء القضاة من الشافعية ببغداد (٢) .
