    عَبْد المَجيد الشَّاوي (١٢٦٨ - ١٣٤٧ هـ = ١٨٥٢ - ١٩٢٨ م) عبد المجيد بن حسن بن مسعود بن عبد العزيز بن عبد الله بن شاوي:أديب، من أعيان العراق. كان في العهد العثماني مبعوثا عن لواء العمارة، وفي عهد الاحتلال البريطاني رئيسا لبلدية بغداد، ثم نائبا عن لواء الدليم، فمتصرفا بالدليم. وهو من أسرة كبيرة كان بعض رجالها يلقب بالإمارة، يتصل نسبها بآل عبيد، من قضاعة. وكان فاضلا، له " مجابيع " في الأدب، منها مجموعة في " الوقائع والتواريخ " ونظم في بعضه جودة، جمعه في " ديوان ". ولد ببغداد، وتوفي في بيروت، وقد جاءها مستشفيا من السرطان، ودفن فيها (١) .
