    عَبْد الباسِط (٧٨٤ - ٨٥٤ هـ = ١٣٨٢ - ١٤٥٠ م) عبد الباسط بن خليل بن إبراهيم، زين الدين الدمشقيّ ثم القاهري: أول من سمّي (عبد الباسط) . ولد وتعلم في دمشق، وانتقل إلى القاهرة، فكان ناظر الخاصة والكتابة، في أيام السلطان المؤيد (شيخ) ومن بعده إلى أيام جقمق. ونكبه هذا وأبعده إلى الحجاز. ثم عاد إلى دمشق، وإلى القاهرة ثانية، وتوفي بها. أثنى عليه السخاوي، وقال: له من المآثر بأقطار الأرض ما يفوق الوصف، من ذلك مدارس في كل من المساجد الثلاثة (بمكة والمدينة والقدس) وفي دمشق وغزة والقاهرة. وللشعراء فيه مدائح (١) .
