الأَذْرَعي الشِّهَابي (٠٠٠ - ٢٨٠ هـ = ٠٠٠ - ٨٩٣ م) عامر بن قيس بن محمد بن شهاب بن قاسم الشهابي: أمير من الشهابيين. كانت له ولاية حوران، خلف بها أباه (سنة٢٥٣ هـ) وفي أيامه استولى أحمد بن طولون على بلاد الشام وأرسل جيشا كبيرا للاستيلاء على حوران، فقاتله عامر في صحراء (أذرعات) المعروفة اليوم بدرعة. وظفر عامر، فجعل إقامته فيها، وبنى بها مساكن، ونسب إليها فقيل له (الأذرعي) وتوفي بها. استمرت ولايته ٢٦ سنة. وكان شجاعا، يقول الشعر (١) .
