ابن الأسْلَت (٠٠٠ - ١ هـ = ٠٠٠ - ٦٢٢ م) صيفي بن عامر الأسلت بن جشم بن وائل الأوسي الأنصاري، أبو قيس: شاعر جاهلي، من حكمائهم. كان رأس الأوس، وشاعرهم وخطيبها، وقائدها في حروبها. وكان يكره الأوثان، ويبحث عن دين يطمئن إليه، فلقي علماء من اليهود ورهبانا وأحبارا، ووصف له دين إبراهيم فقال: أنا على هذا. ولما ظهر الإسلام، اجتمع برسول الله ﷺ وتريث في قبول الدعوة، فمات بالمدينة، قبل أن يسلم (٢) .
