    سَحْبان وَائِل (٠٠٠ - ٥٤ هـ = ٠٠٠ - ٦٧٤ م) سحبان بن زفر بن إياس الوائلي، من باهلة: خطيب يضرب به المثل في البيان يقال (أخطب من سحبان) و (وأفصح من سحبان) . اشتهر في الجاهلية وعاش زمنا في الإسلام. وكان إذا خطب يسيل عرقا، ولا يعيد كلمة، ولا يتوقف ولا يقعد حتى يفرغ. أسلم في زمن النبي ﷺ ولم يجتمع به، وأقام في دمشق أيام معاوية. وله شعر قليل، وأخبار (١) . ابن سَحْمان = سليمان بن سحمان ١٣٤٩
