    سالِم بن ثُوَيْني (٠٠٠ - ١٢٩٠ هـ = ٠٠٠ - ١٨٧٣ م) سالم بن ثويني بن سعيد بن سلطان: ملك عُمان ومسقط. في سيرته إساآت. كان في صباه يساعد أباه في تدبير مملكته، ثم طمع بالانفراد في الملك، فاغتال أباه (سنة ١٢٨٢ هـ في ميناء صحار، وانفرد بالأمر. وذهب إلى مسقط فجمع رؤساء القبائل وأخبرهم بأنه قتل أباه لظلمه، فرضوا عن عمله، وأقروه. فاستمر سنتين وأشهرا، وثاروا عليه، فاستنجد بالبرتغاليين، وكانت لهم سفن مسلحة في شاطئ مسقط، فأعانوه بطلقة مدفع واحدة، ثم خذلوه. وخلع سنة ١٢٨٥ هـ فرحل إلى الهند في أيام استيلاء تركي بن سعيد على الدولة العمانية، فمات فيها بعيدا عن أهله ووطنه (٢) .
