    المُطْران فَرْحات (١٠٨١ - ١١٤٥ هـ = ١٦٧٠ - ١٧٣٢ م) جبرائيل بن فرحات مطر الماروني: أديب سوري، من الرهبان. أصله من حصرون (بلبنان) ومولده ووفاته بحلب.أتقن اللغات العربية والسريانية واللاتينية والإيطالية، ودّرَس علوم اللاهوت، وترهب سنة ١٦٩٣ م ودُعي باسم (جرمانوس) وأقام في دير بقرب (إهدن) بلبنان. ورحل إلى أوربة. وانتخب أسقفا على حلب سنة ١٧٢٥ م. من كتبه (بحث، المطالب - ط) في النحو والصرف، و (الأجوبة الجلية في الأصول النحوية - ط) و (إحكام باب الإعراب - ط) في اللغة، سماه (باب الإعراب) و (المثلثات الدرية - ط) على نمط مثلثات قطرب، و (ديوان شعر - ط) و (بلوغ الأرب - خ) أدب (١) .
