    أَشْجَع بن رَيْث (٠٠٠ - ٠٠٠ = ٠٠٠ - ٠٠٠) أشجع بن ريث بن غطفان بن سعد بن قيس عيلان: جدّ جاهلي، النسبة إليه (أشجعي) أورد ابن حزم وابن خلدون بعض أخبار بنيه في الجاهلية والإسلام. وكانت منازل غطفان قبل الإسلام بنجد، ونزل بند أشجع حول يثرب (المدينة) ولم يبق منهم أحد في نجد. ورحل إلى المغرب في الفتوحات الإسلامية جماعات منهم، فكانوا في أيام ابن خلدون (أوائل القرن التاسع للهجرة) حيا عظيما في المغرب الأقصى يرحل مع عرب (المعقل) بجهات سجلماسة ووادي ملوية (١) .
