    ابن أَعْثَم (٠٠٠ - نحو ٣١٤ هـ = ٠٠٠ - نحو ٩٢٦ م) أحمد بن محمد بن علي بن أعثم الكوفي، أبو محمد: مؤرخ، من أهل الكوفة، من كتبه (الفتوح) انتهى فيه إلى أيام الرشيد العباسي، منه مجلد مخطوط، في ٣٦١ ورقة في شستربتي (الرقم ٣٢٧٢) ونسخة في جامعة الكويت مصورة عن إسطنبول، ونسخة باشرت طبعها دائرة المعارف الإسلامية في حيدر اباد الدكن بالهند. و (التاريخ) من أيام المأمون إلى أيام المقتدر. قال ياقوت: رأيت الكتابين. وقد ترجم قسم من كتاب الفتوح إلى الفارسية وسمي (فتوح أعثم) وطبع بها، وترجمت نسخته الفارسية الى لغة (اردو) وسمي بها (تاريخ أعثم) (٢) .
