اسماعيل بن أبي الخير بن الفضل بن خلف بن عبد الله بن يعقوب: الكفرطابي الأصل، الحموي المولد والمنشأ، أبو الفضل الحكيم، المعروف بالمهذب، كان عارفا بالطب والمعالجة، ويرجع الى دين وأدب، وكان عبد الله بن خلف بن عبد الله النحوي المعروف بسطيح-وسنذكر ترجمته فيما يأتي من كتابنا هذا-جده لأمه وعم أبيه. قدم إلينا الى حلب مرارا، ثم أقام بالقاهرة يطب الناس، واجتمعت به مرارا متعددة، وكتبت عنه شيئا من أحوال جده، وروى شيئا يسيرا بالقاهرة، وكتبت عنه، وكان كيسا، حسن الأخلاق، توفي يوم السبت ثامن عشر صفر من سنة احدى وخمسين وستمائة بالقاهرة.
