    ذكر بدء عزم ابن طاهر على خلع المستعين والبيعه للمعتز ووجه أبو أحمد خمس سفائن من دقيق وحنطة وشعير وقت وتبن إلى ابن طاهر في هذه الأيام، فوصلت إليه ولما كان يوم الخميس لأربع خلون من ذي الحجة علم الناس ما عليه ابن طاهر من خلعه المستعين وبيعته للمعتز، ووجه ابن طاهر قواده إلى أبي أحمد حتى بايعوه للمعتز، فخلع على كل واحد منهم أربع خلع، وظنت العامة أن الصلح جرى بإذن الخليفة المستعين، وان المعتز ولى عهده.
